The government is trying to make it mandatory for companies to spend 2 per cent of profits on corporate social responsibility , junior minister for corporate affairs said on Thursday.
"We are trying to make it mandatory," R P N Singh told reporters, after holding consultations on likely revisions to the Companies bill, which is expected to be tabled in parliament in the upcoming budget session.
The government is revising the existing companies law, which was enacted in 1956.
